PRESS RELEASE:

Red Bull Sound Select returned to Sydney last month with an international headlining showcase in the ethereal surrounds of Paddington’s Uniting Church. Rising Australian talents, Jack Grace and Bec Sandridge performed alongside New York cellist and vocalist Kelsey Lu for a divine evening of live music programmed by Laneway Festival’s Travis Banko.

This February, the esteemed monthly music program is curated for the first time by Sydney’s taste-making FBi Radio and the station’s outgoing Music Director, Stephen Goodhew. At the Chippendale Hotel on February 24, Melbourne’s Kllo, HABITS and local artist Kimchi Princi will come together for a powerful night celebrating a new wave of norm-defying artists and diversity in one of Sydney’s best underground venues.

Alongside two of Australia’s most respected industry figures, I OH YOU’s Johann Ponniah, andLaneway Festival’s Travis Banko, FBi Radio’s newly appointed Music Director, Amelia Jenner will pair established artists with breaking talent, supporting and nurturing live music discovery in designated Red Bull Sound Select events throughout the year.

The February lineup represents a trio of new artists breaking moulds and challenging outdated preconceptions, fronted by Melbourne duo Simon Lam and Chloe Kaul aka Kllo. Having enjoyed a fast rise to the spotlight with their sophomore EP Well Worn, the Melbourne-based duo has encapsulated a world of buzz. The EP’s single “Bolide” secured rotation on triple j, spins on BBC Radio 1 and Hype Machine success in 2016. Witness Chloe’s siren-like vocals and Lam’s house-tinged productions pulsate to life in the Chippendale Hotel underground.

Fellow Melbournians, HABITS are unmistakeable. Their unified front of keenly honed aesthetics coupled with bold rhythms, electronics and sweaty live performances represent some of the finest emotional catharsis and sonic energy Australia has seen. Their new EP, Ugly Cry has scored support from the likes of i-D who determined it “invigorating and really, really fun”.

Poetess and Sydney rapper, Kimchi Princi aka Gina Karlikoff is renowned for her deep dive into our current generation’s fetish for luxury, social connection and self-discovery with her tightly spun verses. In constant visual collaboration with her sister, Danielle Karlikoff, and forward-thinking producersATRO, Slim Set and V-Kim, Princi isn’t afraid to push and re-define the boundaries of bedroom and club on the stage and in session.

Join in an evening that celebrates those who are breaking convention and challenging the expected, by registering your RSVP at www.redbullsoundselect.com. Capacity is strictly limited. With RSVP tickets are $3, without door entry is $10. Ensure to arrive early for special offerings, including bespoke food and drink.
