The Victorian state government has announced a new $5 million initiative to help boost the live music industry in regional Victoria and outer-suburb Melbourne.

The initiative, titled 'On The Road Again', will see the funds dispersed through 34 grants to various industry and individual groups including artists, producers and live music venues.

A slew of concerts and festivals will be taking place through the initiative, with some already being announced, including Ocean Sounds in Phillip Island and Gembrook's Gaytimes Festival.

In addition, the initiative also includes plans for a 20-day calendar of live music events for younger audiences. More concerts and festivals are set to be announced throughout the coming months, with the full schedule available here.

In a statement, Victoria's minister for creative industries Danny Pearson said the 'On The Road Again' initiative was primarily about ensuring the entire state's live music industry gets a boost after suffering throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

“With more than 300 incredible events and an awesome line-up of local artists, this summer offers plenty of reasons to take a music-fuelled roadtrip across Victoria," Pearson said.

“On the Road Again is bringing performers back to local stages, supporting the live music industry, generating tourism and delivering economic benefits in towns and suburbs across the state.”
