Better Man, a biopic centred on the life of Robbie Williams, will be filmed in Australia.

Set to begin early next year, the production will be filmed in Melbourne under the direction of Michael Gracey, the man responsible for directing 2017's The Greatest Showman.

Better Man will film at Docklands Studios Melbourne, Victoria, including an estimated 14 local deads of departments, 80 visual effects practitioners, 220 crew and 2,700 extras and casuals.

The federal government confirmed the project last week, with it set to benefit from Film Victoria's incentive scheme as well as the federal producer offset scheme.

Distributed by Roadshow Films, CEO Joel Pearlman said Better Man will be a cinematic event.

"Better Man is shaping up to become a major theatrical event and we couldn’t be more excited that it will shoot in Melbourne, also the hometown of director Michael Gracey,” Pearlman said.

Gracey said filming Better Man in Melbourne will help the project to come to life and thrive.

"To tell Robbie William’s beautiful, distinct story, back home, in my own city, is a dream come true. There is a creative energy that burns across the Melbourne film industry, and I know this movie will thrive here," he said.
