PRESS RELEASE:
Showcasing seven films over six days, Gimme Some Truth 2015 will feature five Australian premieres and one world premiere.
Films screen at 8pm from Friday, 4 December through to Wednesday, 9 December at Luna Outdoor in Leederville.
The 2015 film program traverses diverse genres and scenes across the globe. From the world of indigenous Australians singing their way through a prison sentence in Prison Songs (AUS), the amazing and often brutal existence of musicians in the African country of Mali in They Will Have to Kill Us First (UK) to the extraordinary story of a fashion photographer in a punk rock world, well before punk rock was a thing, in Her Aim Is True (USA).
Gimme Some Truth opens on Friday, 4 December with We Like It Like That: The Story of Latin Boogaloo. A colourful look into the world of Latin music in New York City during the 1960’s, through to its recent resurgence. This is Buena Vista Social club but with a whole lot more hip shaking. As part of the opening night, come on down early for a drink one us as part of your ticket price and the sounds of the Latin Boogaloo.
What would you do if music was banned in your country? If the act of making the sounds you loved was declared illegal overnight? They Will Have to Kill Us First is the story of how Malian musicians fought back against Islamic Extremists to make the music they wanted.
You heard him for 10 years on your radio and now we give you his story. Barr None: The Peter Barr Story follows RTRFM former Breakfast Presenter in his last week of presenting Breakfast with Barr. This is the story of his life away from the mic.

Reporting from inside the Australian music business since '94.
The 78 Project gives musicians one take to make music in a space they want. The brainchild of recording journalist Alan Lomax, The 78 Project follows the stories of up and coming musicians and the music they make in one take on a Presto direct-to-acetate disk recorder.
The music of Thailand is not one most Western Countries hear nor see. Y/ Our Music immerses you into the world of Thai music, both traditional and modern. We meet those that make it and the instruments essential to the Thai sound.
Originally aired on SBS, Prison Songs takes us into Darwin’s Berrimah Prison. A place where most inmates are Indigenous Australians, we learn their stories, feelings and faults through song in Australia’s first documentary musical.
The final film of Gimme Some Truth 2015 is one of photos and a new wave. Jini Dellaccio taught herself to take photos and in 1964 found herself in the midst of a new wave of music. In the back streets of Seattle, Jini immersed herself into the world of The Sonics and The Wailers. In Her Aim Is True we learn about the world of a fashion photographer in a punk rock world.
