PRESS RELEASE:
BMG is pleased to announce that multiple APRA award-winning, Canberra-based electronic trio SAFIA has signed a worldwide music publishing deal with the company.
In 2016, SAFIA were the most talked-about breakthrough electronic act in Australia. Their debut album Internal debuted at Number One on iTunes and Number Two on the ARIA Albums chart, they received an ARIA nomination for Best Breakthrough Act and a J Award nomination for Australian Album of the Year. Their recent sold-out national tour saw them play to over 25,000 people across eleven shows around Australia and their Spotify streams have exceeded 30 million worldwide.
BMG Australia Managing Director Heath Johns said, "I would be confident putting SAFIA on any stage in the world playing for any audience. Internal is a showcase of progressive production and masterful melodic songwriting - I can only imagine how good the new music will be. It is a true honour to have the band sign a global deal with BMG".
BMG Australia VP Creative Rachel Kelly said, "SAFIA’s debut album points to a bright future and countless possibilities. We’re beyond excited to welcome our newest signing to BMG and can’t wait to ‘Make Them Wheels Roll’ with our global sync team!".
Beyond SAFIA’s immediate achievements, the group have had a successful working relationship with fellow BMG signing Peking Duk. Their collaboration on ‘Take Me Over’ won APRA Awards for Most Played Australian Work and Dance Work of the Year, reached double platinum sales status and peaked at Number Five on the ARIA Australian Singles Chart. SAFIA frontman Ben also featured on the duo’s single ‘Say My Name’ and performed with Peking Duk at last year’s Coachella.
SAFIA said, “We are super excited to be working with the whole team at BMG. They have a great outlook on music and we can’t wait to pursue a range of different creative opportunities while working with them”.
