screen music awards heading back to melbourne

As tipped by TMN, the Screen Music Awards are heading back to Melbourne this year – the first time since 2012.

The event, put together by APRA AMCOS and the AGSC (Australian Guild of Screen Composers, is held on Thursday November 12 at the Melbourne Recital Centre.

“We’re delighted to be back in Melbourne for this prestigious event and hosting these Awards at the highly acclaimed Recital Centre,” said APRA AMCOS CEO Brett Cottle.

“The Screen Music Awards have a long and rich history of acknowledging outstanding screen composition in this country. We look forward to providing the opportunity for our members to not only recognise their peers but renew acquaintances and spark future creative endeavours to be awarded at next year’s event.”

The awards will be hosted for the second time by actor and writer Rob Carlton, and feature music direction by Emmy Award winning composer Ashley Irwin for the third successive year. Irwin’s latest collaboration was with Clint Eastwood on the movie Jersey Boys.

Finalists for the 12 categories –  covering film and TV composers and including documentaries, short films, mini-series, advertising, children’s television and feature film scores –are announced early next month.
