Shazam predicts Grammy winners; Warmest 100 predicts Hottest 100 results

Shazam may have a partnership deal in place with the Grammy Awards, but this hasn’t stopped the media engagement company from trying to spoil the excitement of the awards by offering up predictions of winners across seven major categories: Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Best New Artist, Best Dance/Electronica Album, Best Country Album and Best Rap Album.

Shazam’s MO is to offer "a quantitative way to identify breaking artists as well as measure well-known artists’ songs". In order to make their predictions, they calculated the activity surrounding each nominee as a percentage of the total activity for the category.

Meanwhile, the Warmest 100 are again predicting the results of the triple j Hottest 100, based on collating social media posts. This year, triple j’s ’Post To Facebook’ feature was notably absent when voting, no doubt to muddy the results of the Warmest 100. This year the sample poll is 1.3% of all votes (taken from screenshots of listener’s votes posted online), which they admit is much lower than last year’s, but is still 17,8000 votes strong.

The order might be out, but the songs sure seem correct - so, don’t ruin Australia Day if countdowns are your thing. Shazam’s Grammys predictions, as well as the percentages, are below.

Record of the Year – Robin Thicke feat. T.I. and Pharrell: Blurred Lines (31% of the category)

Album of the Year – Macklemore & Ryan Lewis: The Heist (48% of the category)

Song of the Year – P!nk feat. Nate Ruess: Just Give Me A Reason (31% of the category)

Best New Artist – Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (56% of the category)

Best Dance / Electronica Album – Calvin Harris: 18 Months (59% of the category)

Best Country Album – Taylor Swift: Red (40% of the category)

Best Rap Album – Macklemore & Ryan Lewis: The Heist  (42% of the category)
