spotify reveals the most streamed songs of winter 2016

PRESS RELEASE:

Thursday 8th September, 2016: Today, Spotify announces the songs that dominated the winter months, with Drake’s “One Dance” taking the number one spot both in Australia and globally. In second place is Calvin Harris (featuring Rihanna) with “This Is What You Came For”, while Drake’s “Too Good” rounded out the top three in Australia. Local act Flume (featuring Tove Lo) also made the top five in Australia with “Say It”.

Globally, while spots one and two were on par with Australia’s top streamed tracks, Sia’s “Cheap Thrills” came in at number three. The Chainsmokers (feat. Daya) takes number four with “Don’t Let Me Down”, while Justin Timberlake’s “CAN’T STOP THE FEELING” came in at number five.

The songs of the winter were identified by looking at Spotify’s most listened to tracks between June 1st and August 31st, 2016.

Shanon Cook, Spotify’s resident music trends expert, commented: "Drake’s ’One Dance’ is impossibly catchy and by late autumn had positioned itself as the one to beat. Other playlist staples like Sia’s feelgood song ’Cheap Thrills’, The Chainsmokers’ standout track ’Don’t Let Me Down’ and Calvin Harris’ confident club jam ’This Is What You Came For’ helped shape a sound that was upbeat, edgy and memorable."

1.    Drake (feat. Wiz Kid, Kyla) - One Dance
