Steve Aoki, Dim Mak, Deckstar join DJ royalty platform MixSCAN

Steve Aoki, his own Dim Mak Records and management firm Deckstar have joined EDM acts including David Guetta, Tiesto and Chainsmokers in supporting Dubset Media Holdings’ MixSCAN platform to recognise rights holders and create new streaming revenue.

MixSCAN soft-launched in 2013 as the world’s first formal DJ royalty program. It works as a rights management company, solving issues related to sample clearing of artist mixes and acts as a distribution system where after a DJs mix is uploaded and cleared, it can be distributed to licensed music services for streaming consumption. Dubset then processes royalties to the underlying rights holders of the music sampled as well as the DJ.

MixSCAN has registered over 250,000 mixes and distributes mix content that generates royalties on Thefuture.fm (the streaming platform where MixSCAN first launched), Facebook and Twitter. Additional partners are expected to be announced in the coming months. 

"Dubset offers a solution that solves a huge problem for the industry and enables DJs to monetize and distribute their mixes without having to feel like we are taking advantage of other artists or worry about take down notices," said Steve Aoki in a statement. "As DJs we want to focus on our craft and make great music for our fans. We very much want to compensate the artists whose music we utilize and Dubset makes that happen."

Rachel Springate, Chief Artist Officer of Dubset added: “In addition to artists like Guetta and Tiesto uploading their entire history of podcasts and radio shows, we are ingesting a large volume of mixes every day to our MixSCAN® registry, which for the very first time offers a path for artists and other rights holders to get paid for the use of their content in DJ mixes and other derivative works in the streaming universe."

Dubset recently partnered with the Association for Electronic Music (AFEM) for its 'Get Played, Get Paid' campaign to supply royalties to the correct artists when their music is played. AFEM will ensure content is cleared and distributed to legal music services.

Other artists using MixSCAN include Arno Cost, The Knocks, Jimmy Edgar, MAKJ and Classixx.
