Last night’s Age Music Victoria Awards saw several big name acts recognised.

Courtney Barnett and Dan Sultan took home several accolades including Best Female and Best Male Artist. Barnett’s quirky Avant Gardener won the award for Best Song, while Sultan’s critically lauded album, Blackbird, was crowned Best Album.

The event, which was held in the midst of Melbourne Music Week, featured performances by Russell Morris, Teeth & Tongue’s Jess Cornelius, Davey Lane and Stonefield. Multiple genres of music were represented and the Hall of Fame grew with the induction of both Daddy Cool and pioneering music journalist, the late Ed Nimervoll.

Best Band went to King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, while Cosmic Pychos beat out Briggs, D.D Dumbo, Feya Hollick and Stonefield for Best Regional Act. Melbourne’s Remi was named Best Emerging Artist, Saskwatch took out Best Live Band and the Meredith Music Festival was announced Best Festival.

When it came to recognising venues, The Bridge Hotel, Castlemaine and Corner Hotel, Richmond won Best Regional Venue and Best Venue respectively.
