Mitch Tambo joins Support Act as cultural and inclusion ambassador

Support Act has given First Nations artist Mitch Tambo the position of Cultural and Inclusion Ambassador, the first role of its kind for the organisation.

Tambo has been working with Support Act throughout the past few months, notably spearheading and hosting its new On My Mind series of mental health talks, catered specifically to First Nations artists, crew members and others in the music industry.

Tambo said he was excited for the opportunity to join Support Act in a more formal capacity.

"I have witnessed first-hand the support and love [Support Act] has offered First Nations artists over the duration of two years of lockdowns, along with providing safe space to open up the conversation around mental health, identity, culture and navigating the online space."

Tambo, who is also a qualified social worker, will also be helping Support Act's social work team in assessing and responding to applications for Crisis Relief Grants.

He will be working closely alongside Cerisa Grant, Support Act's First Nations community engagement and social worker, who joined the organisation last year.

"Mitch coming on board couldn't have come at a better time," Grant said.

"As we work to support more First Nations people in the music industry, we want to ensure we’re creating a safe cultural space and a place where our service users feel comfortable."
