PRESS RELEASE:
“Avocado Galaxy” is the debut single from latest Future Classic act World Champion. The Sydney two-piece that is Julian Sudek and Will Campion today share the title track from their forthcoming EP – grab the free download HERE.
The debut, which premiered on triple j’s “Good Nights” this week, is co produced by Jono Ma, and combines his signature fingerprints with Sudek’s punchy beats and Campion’s unmistakably soothing vocals. The “Avocado Galaxy” remix package will also include edits by Melbourne house hero Tornado Wallace as well as Swedish heliocentric production power Dan Lissvik.
World Champion was born when Sudek, who has played with the likes of George Maple, Canyons and Jonti, was charmed by Campion’s voice after seeing him sing with Sydney indie band The Chevaliers. Hanging at a weekly party Sudek used to throw, they bonded over their love of psych pop and electronica. The project quickly moved into the studio as a patchwork of ideas and jams they had individually been sitting on. Together, they have transformed these sketches into lucid visions and have built a repertoire of decidedly unique tunes.
As they gear up for their first string of live performances - at Sydney’s Volumes fest this weekend and Brisbane’s BigSound next month – the duo will make it a month of firsts by dropping the accompanying video for “Avocado Galaxy”, directed by Elliot Shields of Sydney design collective Pelvis.
Scratching the surface with the backing of some of Sydney’s well-respected creative minds like Future Classic, Jono Ma, and Pelvis - round 1 goes to World Champion.
