Brisbane-based singer-songwriter Jarryd James has been selected for Tidal’s new feature for promising acts, Tidal Rising.

Tidal Rising, a program dedicated to promoting local and international emerging artists, is set to boost James’ music onto a global platform with a reach of over 40 countries (43).

TMN reached out to James’ management, who declined to comment.

James’ debut single Do You Remember, released earlier this year, peaked at #2 on the ARIA Singles Charts and has since gone Platinum, selling more than 70,000 copies.

It was recently announced that Universal Music Group US imprint, Interscope Records, had signed the Brisbane native. Do You Remember is now available to download in the US.

A Tidal spokesperson has pinned James as “one of 2015’s great musical acts that need to be on your radar.”

“Tidal Rising was built to help accelerate the exposure that artists who are on the verge of breaking big need to gain exclusive features to Tidal subscribers,” the spokesperson said.

The news of James’ spot on Tidal Rising coincides with today’s introduction of their latest sub-platform, Tidal Discovery.

Targeted exclusively to unsigned artists, it allows undiscovered talent to release their music through the streaming service. In partnership with Phonofile and Record Union, the new service gives artists the option to select their own royalty structure.

“[This is] a place for Tidal subscribers to exclusively discover the music of tomorrow so that it becomes their music of today.  With the service, TIDAL aims to get unsigned bands and artists out to a broader audience,” a spokesperson said.

To support Tidal Discovery, it was announced that Tidal would also market their new talent by staging Discovery concert tours around the US. The shows will feature performances from some of the top streaming Discovery artists.

Tidal had come under fire this week when it was revealed that purchasing the app via iTunes incurred an additional 30% fee.
