Triple j's Avani Dias and Nat Tencic to depart the station next month

Triple j is set to have a major staff shake-up as the year draws to a close, with Hack's Avani Dias and The Hook Up's Nat Tencic set to depart the station next month.

Dias, who has been hosting Hack for the past two years succeeding Tom Tilley, will be staying within ABC and relocating to India as the network's South Asia correspondent.

“Hack has been with me through so much of my life. From listening as a teenager in my bedroom, to the last five years as my dream job – I’m so proud of everything our show does," Dias said.

"Thank you to every young person who has spoken to me, often in their darkest moments let down by broken systems. I will always be grateful for your trust."

Dave Marchese will be taking over Dias' role, having previously worked as a newsreader on Triple J Breakfast. Of Hack, Marchese said, "There’s no better team out there and Avani is leaving behind a huge legacy of important storytelling and investigations."

Nat Tencic, longtime host of the network's sex and relationships show The Hook Up, is also departing after four years, looking towards podcasting opportunities and to work on consent education resources. The show's producer, Dee Salmin, will take over the role in 2022.

"Getting to talk about sex on the air (and too loudly in the office) has been the most fun I could imagine having while getting paid," Tencic said.

"Sex is weird for everyone, but it's weird in a good way when you know you're not the only one going through it. I'm proud to have brought that to people who needed it, and I know the next Hook Up host will keep bringing you a warm, understanding embrace week in and out.”

There will also be some other changes for triple j  next year.

The station's Something More program, airing for the last eight years, will come to a close. Its host Tim Shiel will remain on sister station Double J's afternoon shift. And presenter Shantan Wantan Ichiban moves on from The Kick On to host House Party in 2022.
