To be honest, I didn’t hold much hope that South Londoner Jamie T would make a return to the music scene after his stellar second album Kings & Queens; no real reason, besides the fact it had been almost five years since we had heard any new music from the man, and he had kept pretty quiet on all fronts.

About a month ago we heard the first taste of his third album, Don’t You Find, and earlier this week Jamie T spoke with Matt & Alex on triple j Breakfast when the boys premiered the new single Zombie. He was pretty aloof about what took him so long to return with a third record, but said what he had been writing took a bit of influence from post-grunge bands in the late ’90s and early 2000s, a remarkable change in direction from his earlier stuff (take note of my sarcasm here).

While Zombie may not stray too much from his signature sound, it is damn refreshing to hear Jamie back in the game – a solid and infectious piece of ska-tinged, cheeky indie pop, complete with his charming and witty take on the world.

His third album Carry On The Grudge hits the shelves on September 26.
