About Us

17-year-old Brisbanite Olivia McCarthy first came to our attention last year under her moniker JOY. when she uploaded songs to triplejunearthed.com. It didn’t take long for her name to spread like wildfire around the triple j offices, awarded the Brisbane spot for the Unearthed Laneway Festival competition and picking up some pretty influential fans along the way, including the boys from Peking Duk who joined forces with her when taking over Like A Version later that year. Since then, JOY. has spent many coffee and doughnut fuelled late nights in the studio and has emerged with her debut EP Ode. The first taste of it is About Us, an ethereal and hauntingly beautiful sonic journey that shows off the immense skills of this young singer, producer and songwriter. It’s an exciting window into what we can look forward to with this young talent. She’s on the road now to promote the EP (set for release August 28), with gigs still to come in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Hobart.
