triple j pick of the week meg mac

One of the many images which will stick with me post Splendour In The Grass 2015 was the intense crowd packing out the Tiny Dancer stage for Meg Mac. I got there about 5 minutes before she hit the stage and the tent went from almost full to there's-no-way-you’re-getting-anywhere-close in the same amount of time that it took me to text a mate and say “standing left of the sound desk”.

Meg may still be a bit reserved on stage, but her voice definitely isn’t – she has one of the most powerful voices in the Australian music scene, a fact that is only rammed home more on her new single Never Be. Premiered earlier this week on triple j with Matt & Alex, the M-Phazes produced single once again shows off the powerful, dark-shaded soul and gospel sounds, which have helped garner Meg such a big fan base over the past 18 months. It’s also the first song that Meg’s younger sister Hannah Mac features on, providing backup vocals, who you will be able to see live on stage with her big sis during their national tour this September.
