Bascient
We were bound to get something pretty special when two of Adelaide’s finest emerging artists teamed up together for a new joint. ‘Bascient’ is the latest work from South Australian post-rock provocateurs Sparkspitter with the addition of sisters Katie and Angela Schilling from fellow locals Swimming who’re already known on Unearthed for their winsome melding of indie, folk and electronica. The sweet vocal coos of the Schillings add a nice charm to Sparkspitter’s hitherto instrumental-only sound while also offering a glimpse at the lighter, poppier possibilities of the three piece’s often abrasive experiments in math-rock. It’s also further evidence as to why Unearthed picked Sparkspitter as our Laneway Festival competition winners to open that festival next year in their state.
