You should jot Brisbane’s Stepson down as your next favourite local melodic hardcore band – following in the impassioned footsteps of the likes of Endless Heights, Trophy Eyes and Columbus. The five piece just dropped their second EP, Echoes In An Empty Room, last month and we’ve been playing standout tune This Is How It Feels on the regular on triple j Unearthed radio.

The title hints that you know this song’s going to wring out the emotion and Stepson deliver that emotional punch with loud, emphatic playing. What makes this one so good is the band’s willingness to switch gears playing with some light and shade / loud and soft moments without it feeling forced.
