Unisounds is the fresh face of the National Campus Band Competition which, as Australia’s longest running talent discovery event, for over 26 years has hosted artists as diverse and wonderful as Augie March, Eskimo Joe, Dappled Cities and Jebediah on campuses across Australia. In a brand new partnership between Hub Artist Services and the Tertiary Access Group the competition will evolve away from the traditional band format to an all-inclusive, multi-genre phenomenon embracing the true diversity of talent in the Australian University system. From today, eligible students will be able to enter the program online via the specially curated Music Glue platform at www.unisounds.com.au - for a chance to become one of six national finalists vying to perform at the live national final in Sydney this October, and a supercharged prize pack including a record deal with Dine Alone Records (City and Colour, Alexisonfire, The Dandy Warhols), recording sessions and studio time with ARIA producers, songwriting sessions with writers from The Kennel, a PR package, guitars, backline, clothing and loads of other career-starting swag valued at over $100,000.

Previous NSW finalist Dappled Cities

Hub Artist Services Troy Barrott, who also represents the Dine Alone Records roster in Australia "Our business philosophy has been grounded on talent discovery and nurturing of new artists. We all remember those great nights at the Uni bar, relieving the stress of study by uncovering new live music. We felt this was a space in need of some new energy, because the talent is still out there but we’ve all been distracted by our smartphones and subscription tv. So we’ve partnered with some legendary music companies to shake up this grand old competition; where our ambition is as much to do with providing access to the industry for all young students and artists, as it is about a ’prize’ winner".

Every finalist will participate in a money-can’t-buy industry conference; where they will be provided mentorships from some of Australia’s most successful live agents, promoters, label and publishing executives and undertake a promo photo-shoot; providing un-matched industry experience and networking opportunities. The launch of the Unisounds’17 is only the beginning of a long term plan designed to bring a new level of understanding and engagement between University students and the contemporary music industry. Unisounds will provide touring opportunities, mentorships and aims to become a valuable platform of A&R discovery throughout over 120 campuses across Australia.
