WA Premier wants to see "more live music venues"

Following unveiling of plans to relax Western Australia’s drinking laws further last week, the state’s Premier Mark McGowan has expressed hope that such changes will enrourage more live music venues to open.

Speaking with themusic, Premier McGowan said relaxing the laws would make it easier for "interesting and innovative" venues to be established.

“We know that Perth is renowned for its live music and arts and I’d love to see more interstate and overseas visitors coming here to see the talent on offer," he said.

“Our reforms are all about creating a more vibrant city and cutting some of the red tape that has made it difficult for exciting new venues to open.”

If approved, the changes are set make it easier for pop-up bars to get licenses, with their tourism, community and cultural benefits to be considered during the process.

The CEO of Tourism Western Australia, Chief Health Officer and Commissioner of Police will also have equal saw on such lisencing applications, with the new bill set to be put to WA Parliament this week.
