The Western Australia’s peak music association WAM has seen a 33% rise in membership last year, according to its latest annual report for 2013.

It also reports a 13% jump in engagement with its ’Song of the Year’ quest, while attendance to its Music Industry Sundowner Series increased 18% and attracted more than 15,000 attendees.

WAM CEO Mike Harris found the results vindicating, telling TMN: "It was pleasing to see such strong growth in WAM’s Membership in 2013, meaning that all WAM’s hard work in repositioning our brand, values and benefits, to both the music industry and fans alike, were being recognised and appreciated. We also experienced a higher interest in the Song of the Year competition, and reformatted the WAM Festival and Music Conference to record applause, so the carry-on effects to membership have been really positive. With a new website, and the opportunities that go along with that, we’re looking forward to championing WA music even more effectively than ever before."

Through 2013, WAM directed over $246,000 to West Australian musicians.
