WAM Song of the Year 2017/18, the search for the best songs from West Australia, opened this morning until Monday February 12.
There are 16 diverse award categories. They cover genres as Blues/Roots, Country, Electronic, Experimental, Folk, Jazz, Metal/Heavy, Punk/Hardcore, Pop, Rock, Urban/Hip Hop and World.
There are extra categories for Schools (14 Years & Under), Schools (15-17), Outstanding Indigenous and Outstanding Regional.
The winner of each gets $500 cash, studio time, a double pass to WAMCon 2018 and an entry to be in the running for the Grand Prize.
Winners will be announced at the Awards Party at the Fly by Night Club in Fremantle on Wednesday May 16.
Fremantle Mayor Brad Pettitt commented, “We’re so excited to welcome the WAM Song of the Year Awards to Fremantle once again.
“Many successful and emerging musicians call Fremantle home and the City is proud to support this event and WAM, an organisation that showcases our local talent to national audiences.

The grand prize package includes:
- $3,000 cash
