Megan Washington has become the second artist representative on Phonographic Performance Company of Australia’s (PPCA) Board.

Joining Lindy Morrisson OAM, drummer for The Go-Betweens, Washington replaces Australian country music artist Graeme Connors. Connors, who won an ARIA in 1997 for his LP The Road Less Travelled, joined the PPCA Board in 2011.

While TMN wasn’t able to speak to Washington directly as she is on holiday, her statement issued to press said: “I look forward to working together with the PPCA board and management team to ensure that we continue to create an environment in Australia, where artists and rights holders get fair value for the use of their music.”

PPCA has told TMN the first board meeting will held next month when Washington joins fellow Board members
Denis Handlin, AM (SME), Tony Harlow (WMA), Lindy Morrison, OAM, Bill Cullen (One Louder Ent), David Vodicka (Rubber Records, Media Arts Lawyers), Colin Daniels (Inertia), and PPCA Board Chairman/ President, Universal Music Asia Pacific George Ash.

“I couldn't be more thrilled to welcome Megan to the PPCA board. Her passion and experience will be invaluable to every member of the PPCA,” said Ash.

Since bursting onto the Brisbane indie scene in 2006, the Universal signing has won two ARIA Awards for Best Female Artist and Breakthrough Australian Artist in 2010 as well as the APRA Award for Breakthrough Songwriter of the Year in 2011. Her last LP, 2014’s There, There hit #5 on the ARIA chart.

“Megan’s contribution to Australian music is highly respected by the industry and we are thrilled to have someone with her wealth of experience and vision on the PPCA Board,” said PPCA and ARIA CEO Dan Rosen.
