The West Thebarton Brothel Party, Bad//Dreems and singer-songwriters Jesse Davidson and Mane picked up a swag of nominations for the 2016 South Australian Music Awards (SAM Awards).

The West Thebarton Brothel Party lead with six nominations for the event, to be held on November 11 at Norwood Concert Hall. The awards will be opened by the Premier of SA, Jay Weatherill.

Since Music SA took over the running of the awards, a number of genre categories have been added. The artists for these were picked by 4,000 people, Music SA revealed.

This year sees the introduction of Best Engineer and Best Studio to the swag of music industry categories.

The SAM Awards will take a more formal feel this year, with a long table three-course dinner and live entertainment curated by ARIA Award-nominated producer, band leader and virtuosic bassist Ross McHenry (Shaolin Afronauts, Ross McHenry Future Ensemble, Ross McHenry Trio).

The Chair of Music SA, Anne Wiberg says, “The SAMs are the state’s top honour for contemporary original musicians and music industry professionals; Music SA is incredibly proud of the quality of music and practitioners our state is producing every year.

“The local music community has been a source of pride for our state for a long time now and we are indeed leading the way nationally with our commitment to improving and supporting the industry.

“In the last few years we have seen a significant investment into the industry by the State Government and there have been some important changes to legislation, but we are also seeing some fabulous new talent and entrepreneurship which is all contributing to a stronger and more vibrant contemporary music industry in South Australia.”
