BMG today announced the signing of Sydney-based band Winston Surfshirt to a worldwide publishing deal.
The outfit was birthed from the solo project of singer-rapper-producer Winston Surfshirt, but blossomed into a musical collective.
"The ascent of Winston Surfshirt has been incredible to watch," said BMG Australia managing director Heath Johns.
"Sponge Cake was one of 2017’s best releases and one of the most impactful and dynamic debut records from an Australian band in a long time.
"I am absolutely delighted that the band have chosen BMG as their global publishing partner and we look forward to helping build this exciting story around the world”.
Winson Surfshirt released their debut album Sponge Cake in September of 2017 - and it debuted as Number One on the iTunes R&B/Soul Charts, number two on Apple Music Best of The Week and number six on the iTunes Album Charts.
It was also triple j's feature album, and followed three singles by the band gaining full rotation on the station earlier in the year.

"Over the moon to sign with BMG, home to so many of my favourite songwriters past and present like David Bowie, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, Frank Ocean & Andre 3000," said Winston.
Winston Surfshirt join BMG's roster which includes the likes of Peking Duk, LDRU, SAFIA, Golden Features, KLP, AC/DC, Wolfmother, Lance Ferguson, The Living End, Meg Mac, San Cisco, Drapht, Montaigne, Matt Corby, Jesse Porsches, Tigerilla, Running Touch, Tame Impala (ex. ANZ), Dead Letter Circus, Nicole Millar, Wave Racer and The Cat Empire.
