The East Journey/Yothu Yindi EP collaboration, The Genesis Project, will have its Australian premiere at the National Indigenous Music Awards (NIMAs) with a one-hour live set.

The two Northern Territory bands will then take the music on tour nationally, with dates to be announced shortly.

The project, acclaimed as a significant release in the history of indigenous music, began a year ago. The fast-rising East Journey regard Yothu Yindi as their spiritual and musical ancestors – with some of the members related to the Yunupingu clan. The EP was made with Yothu’s Ben Hakalitz, Buruka Tau and Stu Kellaway, and produced by LA-based producer Steve Salas.

The Genesis Project had its world premiere earlier this year in Los Angeles at the G’Day USA gala.

The NIMAs are held in Darwin on Saturday July 25 and organized by peak music association Music NT.
